What We’re All About
Foundations First TO is an organization at the forefront of addressing topics not adequately covered in the traditional curriculum.
The "one-size-fits-all" approach to teaching, and the content within the curriculum often falls short of preparing all secondary students for life beyond high school. Additionally, the actual content taught is often outdated, only theoretical, and does not explain the practical - or in other words, how it can be used in real life and why it matters. Our most vulnerable youth are academically disengaged and their post-secondary schooling and work prospects are damaged.
We are a youth-led team that deals directly with bridging knowledge and opportunity gaps for vulnerable youth across the GTA. We conduct our own educational and career readiness programming on a cohort-basis through our Flagship FF Academy where we address key topics not adequately covered by the traditional curriculum, such as financial literacy and critical thinking.
FF Academy Curriculum
Inspired by asking ourselves, what do we wish we learned when we were younger? And, how do we adapt those answers to today’s’ day and age?

This is all about bridging the theoretical with the practical. How and where can you invest? Credit, budgeting, taxes, and inflation explained in a way people can actually understand.

How to break down complex problems into manageable parts and how to ask the right question are just two key topics that this module addresses

What is an LLM? What models are best for what type of work? How should you think about AI as a student of youth? How can you get the most out of a prompt?

This project is all about connecting your values and passions with a career, then mapping a detailed plan to enter that line of work.

Helping youth stand out while pursuing their dreams is at the heart of this project. The Passion Project can go directly on your resume and establish our youth as curious go-getters.

Whether through our one off seminars or FF Academy, we’ve had the previlege of directly impacting over 500 youth across the GTA.

Between our Financial Literacy, Critical Thinking, Youth Networking and FF Academy, we’ve constantly been responsive to the needs our of youth.

We believe the most impact will be made together. Recent FF partnerships with recruiting companies who focus on youth employment are a perfect example of 1+1=3 community collaboration.

This summer Foundations First held an event that brought together many of our community members, students, professionals, associates and more. A vast array of multicultural food, drinks, music and entertainment were provided!
CITY HALL YOUTH SUMMIT

This will be a convening of all City of Toronto Youth Councils at City Hall, coming together to discuss the themes of making change and entrepreneurship. This day will be led in part by FF leadership alongside city staff and select community partners.
